Carl Jones: South Wales Running Coach on Resilience, Ultra Running, and Mental Health

About Me: Carl Jones

In February 2020, just after completing my first ultra marathon, my life changed overnight. I suffered a stroke. What followed were months of recovery, reflection, and rediscovery. Step by step, I regained full mobility and with it a renewed determination to live life to the fullest.

By July that same year, I signed up for my first 50-mile ultra. From there, I kept pushing further, completing my first 100-miler, then a 200-miler, along with countless 100s, 50s, 40-mile, and 50K events. Every mile became more than a physical challenge. Running became therapy. It became my medicine, my outlet, and my way to manage and improve my mental health.

I’ve learned that running isn’t just about fitness. It’s about resilience, connection, and healing. It’s where I’ve found clarity on tough days and strength when everything else felt uncertain.

That’s why I became a running coach. I want to help others not just chase finish lines, but find balance, purpose, and confidence in themselves. My coaching goes beyond numbers on a screen or automated plans. It’s about real, human support — understanding the struggles, the highs and lows, and the mental battles that come with endurance and life itself.

In March 2026, I’ll take on my biggest challenge yet, an attempt to set the Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the 870-mile Wales Coast Path. This journey represents everything I stand for: resilience, hope, and the belief that we are capable of so much more than we think.

Whether through my own running or coaching others, my mission is simple. I want to help people move forward, one step at a time.
